I’m linking up with Like Mother, Like Daughter today for ”Pretty, Happy, Funny, Real.” Its explanation: “Capturing the context of contentment in everyday life.”
Hmmm. Sounds exactly like what I’m trying to do!! Perfect!
Michael and I had the chance to sneak away for the day and overnight this weekend. We spent the day at our family’s lakehouse with some good friends. I really don’t think there’s any place on Earth prettier than the lake this time of year. It’s hard not to see God’s handiwork!
As much as I love my little ones, it did this mama some good to be away from them. This is the first time in a l-o-n-g time that I was away from them for complete and total leisure! While Mike was doing some work around the outside, I literally found myself pacing back and forth (and hearing phantom crying that sounded a lot like Caroline) with absolutely nothing to do. It was weird, yet glorious!!
We drove around and headed to the falls, which is one of our favorite little outings (no matter the season) when we’re down there. My heart was so full and so happy, I was even cheesing for the camera and being goofy. And Mike really wanted to walk across (for like the millionth time in his life), but he was wearing nice shoes. So what does he do? He goes barefoot. In the freezing cold water. He didn’t make it very far.
We needed this little adventure so desperately! It was one of the first times either of us has been able to relax in quite some time and it was the first time we’d been away together just the two of us in just as long. Good for the soul!!
Have you had any adventures lately?
Life happens when we get away!
