On Guest Posting, Contributing, and Creating a New Series- Quick Takes

Happy Friday, dear readers! Today’s a GREAT day because we are picking up our new car. Cue The Price is Right music. Imagine two grown adults ridiculously dancing around to the music. That’d be my husband and me. But more on that later.

Today I’d like to share with you some of the places I’ve posted/contributed my writing as well as some guest posting opportunities here.

1.

I don’t think I ever officially announced that I am a monthly contributer over at Catholic Mom. I have an author page and everything! I am ecstatic to be working with Lisa Hendey (author of The Handbook for Catholic Moms and A Book of Saints for Catholic Moms). You should head over to Catholic Mom (after you read the rest of this post, of course) for awesome resources, articles, and information about being a Catholic mom. Check out the articles I’ve contributed so far and send me some comment love, would ya?

2.

Last week, I wrote a guest post for Emily over a Day in the Life. She’s hosting a Wives’ Vocation series. I wrote about my struggle with being a mom and wanting to be a teacher and how I ultimately embraced God’s plan for me. Please go over and check it out. While you’re there, check out the other posts to the series and Emily’s blog. If you are interested in writing for her series, just send her an e-mail!

I am very excited to announce a new series that I’ll be doing right here at Life Happens When: Parenting Your Preschooler (Without Pulling Your Hair Out). This will be an ongoing series where I blend my own experiences with resources and advice that have been invaluable in my parenting journey. You can expect to see a post from this series at least once a month starting next week! I’ll cover ages and stages (18 months to 5 years), tips and creative strategies, education, and much more! If you have any specific requests for this series, please let me know via the comment section here, e-mail, Facebook, or Twitter.

I’m also excited to announce a guest posting series here at Life Happens When! This is where YOU can write your very own post about how/when life has happened for you. I’d love to start this series in April so check out #5 for all the writer’s guidelines.

Writer’s Guidelines for the Life Happens When Guest Series:

Familiarize yourself with Life Happens When. The main goal of this site is to offer others encouragement to live with faith, grow in love, and make the most of each day.

Topics:
Posts should be in first person and tell about a time when life has happened for you.

Topics could include: faith (you do NOT have to be Catholic to write about a faith experience), family (you do NOT have to be married or have kids), finding happiness, chasing dreams, healthy living, etc.

Tone:
While struggles and difficult challenges can and should (if necessary) be addressed, the overall tone of your article should be positive. What lesson can you provide our readers? How can they take your experience/lesson and apply it to their own lives?

Structure:

  • Posts should be 500-700 words.
  • Posts must be original (not published anywhere else).
  • Posts should include at least one photo- preferably your own. Stock photos will only be used if they are credited.
  • Posts must include the tagline “Life happens when…” as the final sentence. Be creative, but make sure it is related to your article.

Editing:
Posts should be proofread for grammatical/spelling errors prior to submission.

Posts may be edited to change titles, rephrase openings or conclusions, or correct grammar or spelling. (I can’t help it- I’m a former English teacher!) Posts that do not meet guidelines or do not reflect the overall tone of Life Happens When may be returned for revisions.

Author Bio:

Include a few sentences about yourself and a photo (if you’d like). This would be a great place to promote your own blog or projects, but you do NOT need a blog or website to guest post! Anyone is welcome to contribute!

Ready to Guest Post?

Send me an e-mail at lifehappenswhen (at) yahoo.com with a short explanation of your proposed article. Once I approve the topic, you’ll be on your way in no time!

Life happens when we use our words to inspire others!

Yes, I know how to add and I realize I only did 5 quick takes. Sorry about that. For more awesome quick takes, head on over to Conversion Diary!

  1. I love your “life happens when” theme that you have for this blog and every post in it! I might like to guest post sometime in the future. Thank you for the opportunity.
Congrats on your Catholic Mom series!

  2. Your series sounds awesome! Maybe when my capstone is done I can write one for you!
I loved your post you wrote for my series. I’m glad I’m getting all these awesome perspectives about being a wife and mom!

  3. I saw your posts on Catholic Mom – yay! I love that site!

How do you find the time to write regularly? Do you schedule it in your day? With the older one not napping anymore, I feel like I am ignoring him if I write while he’s awake, and on the days “quiet time” actually happens I am getting other stuff done!

    • Funny you should ask that, Marie! I really struggle with this! However, I do make my oldest “nap” in his room for at least an hour at the same time his sister naps. This time usually ends up with me surfing the internet, reading other blogs, checking Facebook, etc. so it isn’t very productive. A few nights a week, I usually write for at least 1-2 hours when everyone else is asleep (like from 8-10 or so). Also my oldest goes to Mother’s Day Out two days a week and sometimes I can get a little writing done while the little one is napping on those days.

I also handwrite some ideas down during the day in a notebook while I’m sitting with my kids in the playroom, etc.

I’m still figuring it all out, though! Sometimes I write and the laundry piles up. I know that’s not good. I definitely need to strike a good balance!
